Faith appears to be the theme running through my highlights this week, although the two films I’ve selected deal with issues of faith quite differently. Up In The Air actress Vera Farmiga directs for the first time in Higher Ground, a film about a woman’s lifelong struggle with her faith, and in the documentary Kumare, a young theology graduate undertakes an extreme experiment on spirituality.

Happy Easter! I hope you’ve had a lovely break and a lot of all things chocolate! I’ve been eating the odd egg since they appeared in the supermarket early this year, and have had my fair share in the last few days. After watching Fork over Knives, one of my selected highlights this week, I’m feeling a little guilty about my overindulgence so needless to say a few salads will be eaten this week.

Rake is a new Australian drama premiering on Rialto Channel tonight at 8.30pm. It stars award winning actor Richard Roxburgh as a brilliant, witty, self-destructive and politically incorrect barrister called Cleaver Greene. Superbly written and hilariously funny – this is one of the best television series I’ve seen in ages.

Recently I had a chat to Richard Roxburgh about the origins of the show, and how he’s flying the flag for Kiwi talent in Australia.

Variety is the theme of my highlights this week: a fast paced Brazilian crime thriller, an Oscar nominated documentary about an American eco- terrorist group, and a drama in which Shakespeare is a fake.

Yes, plenty to discuss around the water cooler this week.
