Well, the night belonged to Shopping, the Kapiti Coast set coming-of-age story written and directed by Louis Sutherland and Mark Albiston. Nominated for 13 awards, Shopping took home three of the major awards for Best Film, Best Director and Best Screenplay at the Rialto Channel New Zealand Film Awards last night.

Well, the night belonged to Shopping, the Kapiti Coast set coming-of-age story written and directed by Louis Sutherland and Mark Albiston. Nominated for 13 awards, Shopping took home three of the major awards for Best Film, Best Director and Best Screenplay at the Rialto Channel New Zealand Film Awards last night.

Acting newcomers Julian Dennison and Laura Petersen took home the Moa awards for Best Supporting Actor / Actress categories. The film also won Best Poster Design and Best Cinematography - adding to Shopping’s winning spree of 7 awards in total.

Mr. Pip was the second successful film on the night with Hugh Laurie and another newcomer Xzannjah winning Best Actor and Best Actress, and the film also took home the Moa for Best Costume Design and Best Score.

The documentary and short film awards where spread out amongst a variety of worthy recipients and the Rialto Channel Film Awards also took a moment during the evening to honour Lifetime Achievement winner Geoff Murphy, director of Kiwi classics such as Goodbye Pork Pie, Utu and The Quiet Earth.
