In the wake of WWII Susan (Meryl Streep) attempts to settle back into regular life. After stumbling into a job in politics she meets her now husband, Brock (Sam Neill). The stresses of starting a family begin to destabilize their union, and Susan soon comes to realise that she may have been happiest during the war.
