In 1938, Geoffrey Firmin (Albert Finney) is an alcoholic British consul in a Mexican city. His self-destructive behavior causes distance with his idealistic half-brother (Anthony Andrews) and his wife (Jacqueline Bisset). On the Day of the Dead, Geoffrey wanders the streets and observes the ongoing festivities. Nominated for two Oscars and the Palme d'Or at Cannes.
