The Man On The Island

A character study of Colin McLaren, a highly quotable 77-year-old whom, in the 1970s, moved to the the tiny island of Rakino to live off-the-grid, venturing back to Auckland only for supplies. Directed by Simon Mark-Brown (A Seat At My Table), the documentary was shot during 2020 under Covid-19 restrictions, and its theme of self-isolation is especially resonant in pandemic times.
