Nine-year-old David, a Polish refugee, is adopted by an English family during WWII. He soon settles into English life and forms a strong bond with his new adoptive brother, 9-year-old Martin. Several years later, David, now a violin prodigy, disappears on the eve of his first solo concert, and Martin travels throughout Europe to find him.
