Naomi (Ania Bukstein), the daughter of a rabbi, wants to postpone her marriage in order to spend time at a women's seminary to study Scripture. At Safed, she meets Michelle (Michal Shtamler), whose father has sent her to the seminary to tame her wild ways. The two start out as enemies but quickly become best friends as they begin bringing food to the mysterious Anouk (Fanny Ardant), who is suffering from both cancer and heart trouble. Anouk, who may or may not be Jewish, has come to Israel after spending 15 years in prison for murder. Naomi, who bristles against the prohibition of women becoming rabbis, decides to conduct a series of purification rituals to help Anouk make her peace with God. Meanwhile, Naomi and Michelle are becoming closer than either had ever intended, but are they both prepared for the direction their relationship is heading?
